Acerca de Meriam

Hello, I’m Meriam! I have a Bachelor’s degree in English Studies from Moulay Ismail University in Meknes, and I’m currently completing a Master’s in Teaching and Learning English as a Foreign/Second Language at Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona. I also hold a C1 certificate in English.

I have been teaching since 2018. I started as a volunteer teacher of English and French at an orphanage in Meknes, working with children aged 8 to 14, and later taught English at a language centre. I have also worked with preschool children aged 2 to 6, so I know how to keep very young learners motivated through songs, games, and stories.

I grew up in a multilingual environment: Arabic is my mother tongue, and I speak French and English fluently. Because I have been a language learner myself, I understand the difficulties students face, and I explain things in a clear, simple, and patient way.

I take my lessons seriously. I prepare each class, adapt it to the student’s level and goals, and follow their progress. I also keep in touch with parents so they know what their child is learning. My goal is for every student to feel comfortable speaking English and to enjoy learning it.

My teaching method

I believe the best way to learn English is to use it. My lessons are practical and focused on speaking, with clear explanations of grammar and vocabulary only when needed. I start with a short conversation (or a playful first meeting with younger children) to find out the level and goals, then I build lessons around what matters most: school, confidence, or exams. I use a communicative approach: real conversations, role plays, short texts, and listening activities for older students, and songs, games, stories, and flashcards for the little ones. I correct mistakes in a kind way, usually after the student finishes speaking, so they don’t lose confidence. At the end of each lesson, I summarize what we learned and give short, realistic practice tasks.

Example of a one-hour lesson (school-age students)

10 min: warm-up conversation and review of the previous lesson
15 min: new topic, vocabulary or grammar, explained with examples
20 min: speaking or writing practice using the new language
10 min: feedback on mistakes and key expressions to remember
5 min: summary and homework

Example of a 30-minute lesson (ages 2 to 6)

5 min: hello song and greetings
10 min: new words with flashcards and movement
10 min: game or story to practice the new words
5 min: goodbye song and a short review

What makes my lessons different

I speak Arabic, French and English, so I understand the difficulties of learning a language and can explain things in a simple way.
I’m completing a Master’s in Teaching and Learning English as a Foreign/Second Language, so I use up-to-date teaching methods.
I hold a C1 certificate in English.
I have experience teaching children of different ages, from preschool (2 to 6) to pre-teens (8 to 14).
I’m patient and encouraging, and I create a relaxed, fun atmosphere where children feel comfortable speaking.
