I went to an English speaking high school, and before going there I spoke very little English. I remember how hard it was to speak and write everything in a foreign language all of a sudden. But becoming fluent in English had given me so many opportunities! I feel more save when traveling, I’ve lived in different counties, and I can acquire so much more knowledge when doing research for my university studies. I think that mastering English is in many ways a key to the wide world, which I think every child deserves. I would love to contribute to increasing children’s opportunities professionally and in life.

I like to adapt my teaching methods to the individual students and their needs/goals and capabilities. The content of the classes also depends on the specific parts of the English language they struggle with or want to improve. For example, I’ve tutored children in high school who were preparing for their exam, meaning we would practise a lot with the specific types of questions their written exams would ask. But I’ve also taught people who mostly wanted to improve their speaking, so I would prepare some topics/prompts talk about. Whilst having dat to day conversations I’d help them improve their pronounciation and broaden their vocabulary. Lastly, I believe it’s very important to give your students the courage to just try expressing themselves in English, by making them feel comfortable. I do this through positive re-encouragement and by making English the only language spoken in the classroom. So I’d use body language or very simple terms to explain unknown words. This way the students slowly but surely start thinking in English (even if it’s very simple English) rather than first having to translate their thoughts before being able to express them.
