Hello! My name is Dara McDermott. I’m originally from Ireland, and I hold a BA in English and Psychology as well as a TEFL qualification with a focus on young learners. I’ve worked in roles that required strong communication, patience, and creativity — from teaching life skills to adults with intellectual disabilities to customer service and supervision roles. Living here in Barcelona I understand the difficulties people may face with communicating in a foreign language (especially how scary it can be!) I’m passionate about creating engaging, student-centered English lessons that build confidence and make learning enjoyable for both children and adults.

CURRENTLY ONLY AVAILABLE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. I aim to make learning fun and casual with an emphasis on being understood, not perfect. I use a communicative approach (CLT) in order to build learners' confidence in communicating. I understand speaking in a foreign language can be pretty daunting, so I make sure to curate a judgment-free environment where people can feel free to make mistakes and learn from them. I will always try to put learners in a variety of real-life situations, so that they can learn how to use their language skills to communicate in the real world. However, I am adaptable and want to know how YOU would like to learn. With a bit of teamwork and perseverance, I feel that I can improve learners' confidence and skills in language acquisition.
